Geysir Revived by Earthquake
Geothermal activity in Southwest Iceland has been on the rise since last Thursday’s earthquake . Geysir, Iceland’s largest hot spring, which has been largely dormant for years, has been heating up since Thursday and even erupting occasionally. Meanwhile eruptions in Strokkur, a smaller hot spring located next to Geysir, have been far more powerful than usual. Morgunbladid reports.
A similar trend was observed following the earthquakes in 2000, although the current increase in geothermal activity is far greater than it was then.
